Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas, spent with those they love. We had an awesome first Christmas with all 3 of our kids! It’s always such a wonderful time when you have little’s home.
When I decided to become a stay at home mom I had to get really creative when it came to finding ways of saving money. Especially for Christmas time. I consigned clothes, sold household items I found ‘unnecessary’, and even turned in metal recycling found on our property. But that literally covered one Christmas, so now what? I had to get creative again. So here we are, earning money for things I already buy and ways I already lived.
I can’t tell you how much these have changed my life. This past Christmas was probably the best one to date. I know Christmas isn’t about the presents but being able to give to those we love and those in need, is a feeling I cherish. Plus, those smiles on our kiddos faces is something I long for each year.
Ibotta: Arguably my favorite money saving app on my phone! Ibotta offers ‘rebates’ on purchases. Start using it now and I guarantee you’ll have a really nice cash out come December! Ibotta offers cash back deals tailored just for you, any brand rebates, and countless ways to earn! Plus, when you sign up using this link you’ll get a $10 welcome bonus!
Kmart FREECASH: We’ve had a Kmart in our town since before I born but I never shop there. One day I got an email from them saying my “$18 and $14 FREECASH was about to expire” so their marketing tactics worked and I went in to the store. But let me tell you it was the best thing ever and now I’m slightly obsessed. The store was doing a BOGO sale on practically everything in the store. I scored 4 complete outfits for my daughter, plus BOGO toys and only paid cents! Literally! It was glorious. Plus, every purchase earns you even more points towards any purchase. Now I check my points every day to see if I have any FREECASH. In fact, I have $5 waiting for me right now 😉.
Kohl’s: Kohl’s will send coupons to their rewards members as a “surprise” and for your birthday. Use these on top of a good coupon and you’re in business! Another great incentive? Buy when Kohl’s cash is being offered.
Checkout 51: Similar to Ibotta, Checkout 51 offers ‘rebates’ on purchases which can then be redeemed for a check once your account reaches $20+. This past year I saved the balance until I needed it for Christmas shopping and cashed out a $53 check! Woot, woot!
Shopkick: This app is one I plan on getting more familiar with this year. Shopkick allows you to earn points for shopping in-store and online. Walk in and scan products, visit online stores, and make purchases. It’s that easy! Use code COOL129431 and you’ll get 250 free points which automatically gets you half way to a free gift card!
Savings Catcher: Walmart’s Savings Catcher app is so easy to use. Shop at Walmart, scan the QR code on your receipt and boom! It automatically finds deals and lower prices on items you already purchased and uploads them onto an e-card, which you can redeem at any time and any amount right at the register. Again, use the app all year and bank your account and you’ll have a pretty gift card waiting for you!
Bath and Body Works: I can’t tell you how many coupons I get in the mail for free items with NO purchase necessary. I love using these for little gifts that I give to my mail lady, coworkers, etc. And because of the size, they make perfect stocking stuffers, too.
Some of these coupons and deals come through throughout the year, not just at Christmas time. Therefore, I would suggest getting a box and using it for all the goodies and gifts you pick up throughout the year for the holidays.
Some other great ideas to save during the holidays:
- Our local grocer offers digital coupons for buying gift cards. Sometimes it’s 4x points and sometimes it’s dollars off a gift card purchase. Plus, with all the traveling during the holidays the points go towards discounted fuel prices!
- Shop through third party companies like Ebates or Ibotta for cash back on items you were going to purchase anyway.
- Paying shipping is such a rip. Choose free shipping or many places now opt for you to buy online and pick up in store.
- Sign up for your favorite stores email and text alerts.
I’d love to hear your thoughts about these and any others that help you during the holidays. We are very much looking forward to seeing what 2018 has in store for us!
Until next time,
